The Emptiness cufflinks represent what the first human beings saw when, at the genesis of Life, they raised their eyes to Heaven, discovering the Sun and the Moon, guardians of Day and Night.

In the distant lands of Tibet, where the wind blows impetuously and the wild rock coexists with the biting ice, the path of wayfarers is sometimes interrupted by chortens - small constructions made of polished stone. Chortens are made up of square steps, circles and a bulbous dome, simple in appearance but with deep philosophical meanings. These cufflinks are inspired by the shapes of the sun and moon that make up these constructions; their task is to remind the wearer of the importance and value of truth.

According to the ancient doctrines of Buddhist monks, formulated in the high monasteries that touch the heavens, the Sun and Moon represent the dualism that exists between Absolute Truth and Relative Truth, between what transcends human understanding, and what is possible to know and belongs to the earthly world.

On the one hand, these cufflinks encapsulate the philosophical thought expressed by Socrates: "I know that I do not know". One of the highest forms of thought, this thought is an invitation to discover, to investigate, to experiment and to go beyond established patterns. On the other hand, this fine jewel also reflects the conception of the British philosopher Bertrand Russell: 'the domain of truth is wider than knowledge, what is not verifiable may be true', indicating how truth does not depend on what we know; truth can lie beyond our knowledge.

Our ideas are thus influenced not only by what we know but also by what we ignore. Absence, which we often overlook, indirectly forms and shapes our opinions and conceptions.

The Sun and Moon, represented in this elegant pair of finely diamond-cut cufflinks, invite us to reflect deeply on the meaning of truth and knowledge. They remind us that many truths are precluded to the human intellect, but that it is up to the individual to challenge and go beyond the horizons of knowledge.

Handcrafted and brought to perfection in Rome with respect for Nature and Human Dignity. Made exclusively of pure 24 carat Fairmined Eco Gold and pure 999 Fairmined Silver, sustainable and free of toxic chemicals.

Packaging

The fine wood boxes and wool pouches, which we do not consider as mere wrappings, but as silent guardians of small Works of Art, are evidence of the great beauty of the Human Soul and of the craftsmanship that distinguishes Fucine Romane. The wood comes from forests managed in harmony with Nature and the wool is the gift of lovingly reared flocks.
